HAVING just spent a few blissful days in the heart of the countryside, I came across this short quote from the anarchist writer Herbert Read - certainly a kindred spirit.
“In spite of my intellectual pretensions, I am by birth and
tradition a peasant. I remain essentially a peasant. I despise this foul
industrial epoch – not only the plutocracy which it has raised to power, but
also the industrial proletariat which it has drained from the land and
proliferated in hovels of indifferent brick."
